Today, the government of the Russian Federation announced that starting March 27, 2020, Russia interrupts air traffic with other countries without indicating any time frames.


FIDE can not continue the tournament without guarantees for the players' and officials' safe and timely return home. In this situation and on the basis of clause 1.5. South Lakes Congress 5-7th June 2020


The South Lakes Chess Congress (SLC) has been postponed for the foreseeable future due to the Coronavirus outbreak. We have been monitoring the situation in the hope that the situation would improve, but the UK government's action on prohibiting events and gatherings has meant we have reluctantly to postpone the event.

Chess in Schools and Communities are hosting our 1st One Day Chess

Congress events of 2020 for Year 2 to 6 pupils and Year 7 to 11 pupils.

Broadoak & Smallshaw Community Centre, Broadoak Road, Ashton-under-

Lyne OL6 8RS.

Saturday 4th April 2020 from 10am – 2.15pm. (Registration from 9.30am).

The tournament is NOT run on a knockout basis and all competitors will play

a minimum of 5 games.

Entry fee payable on the day is £3.00.

RIP Paul Timson (1946 - 2020)

Paul used to play for Heywood in the Manchester League and Manchester Manticores in the 4NCL.

Paul a genuinely nice guy will be missed. More details at the link below.

The funeral will take place on Monday 2nd March. The service will be at Whalley Methodist Church at 2pm , (followed by a cremation at 3pm).

There will be refreshments at the Foxfields at Billington.
