The one day junior congress held at 3Cs provided plenty of success for the host club against many of the top young players in the Greater Manchester region.Ben Newton won the "Kings" competition with Akil Balakrishnan and Tim Ye finishing joint third while Zayeem Alam was victorious in the "Knights" section. The Open event saw a three-way tie at the top - all 3Cs' players - namely Alannah Ashton, Lucas Chan and Hunain Malik. Ben Newton also gained a prize for correctly answering a series of chess puzzles that were provided during the eventThe group photo is of (left to right) Tim Ye, Akil Balakrishnan, Zayeem Alam and Ben Newton while the individual picture is of Hunain Malik.

Manchester Junior Chess ran a first, successful Junior Congress at Three Cs Chess club on 15th December. Thanks go to Tony Ashton and John Walton from Three Cs for inspiring and supporting the event. Forty children participated, in five sections including three All-Play-Alls with standard play time schedules.

Start at 10.30 a.m. Finish at 4.30 p.m. (approx). Parents should return for 3.30 p.m.

Entry fee £13. (£15 if entered on the day)

Members of the English Chess Federation have a £3 discount.

Silver Membership of the ECF is free in your first year.

I'm sad to say that Andy Jenkins has passed on after a short illness. Andy's funeral is this Wednesday, December 5th at 1pm in the Rowan Chapel, Stockport Crematorium and afterwards at the Wycliffe Hotel, Edgeley, Glenn Trueman has written a tribute on the Marple Blogspot. http://marplechess.blogspot.com
