Manchester Junior Chess Online 4NCL and Junior 4NCL October - December 2020.

Manchester Junior Chess
4NCL and Junior 4NCL
October – December 2020
Manchester entered a number of teams in the 4NCL and Junior 4NCL
including our own Manticores and club teams from Bolton & Worsley and
Urmston.
Manchester Junior Chess entered five teams (nearly thirty children) in the
Junior 4NCL and three teams in the 4NCL (seventeen children).
Children were drawn from a range of MCF clubs including:
1. Heywood
2. Bolton
3. Worsley
4. Three C’s
In the 4NCL our final positions were:
Manchester Junior A team 3 rd in Division 4
Manchester Junior B team 8 th in Division 4
Manchester Junior C team 8 th in Division 5
There were six divisions. While the B and C Teams found life challenging (they
usually had an average 400 grading point difference) everyone scored and I saw no
games in which we looked as if we had stumbled into the wrong room.
In the J4NCL our final positions were:
Manchester Junior A 2 nd in Division 1
Manchester Junior B 1 st in Division 3 In the finals.
Manchester Junior C 2 nd in Division 3
Manchester Junior D 49 th in Division 4
Manchester Junior E 55 th in Division 4
J4NCL played 10 plus 15; 4NCL played 45 plus 10.
Big Congratulations to all the children and thanks to their parents.
NEXT SEASON STARTS IN JANUARY AND I THINK WE COULD ADD ANOTHER
TEAM IN EACH TOURNAMENT. For the J4NCL, children with grades around
100 to 140 would find it an interesting challenge. For the 4NCL a similar range,
but children who want to play Standard rather than Rapidplay. I am particularly
interested in children with grades over 160 and we could compete in a higher
division.
Finally I attach a game http://view.chessbase.com/cbreader/2020/11/20/Game633916812.html between Freddie W. against Petra Fink Nunn (2042). Freddie
lost (probably his opponent had stronger seconds) but for an eleven year old facing a
very challenging match he answered most of the problems set for him from move 2
