Another Win for Three Cs

ANOTHER WIN FOR "THREE Cs"

"Three Cs" gained another victory .... but this time on the track rather than the chess board.

A horse named "Three Cs" won the 4.40pm race at Southwall on Friday (Feb 7). Despite being 7th favourite out of the 10 runners it ran away to win by 3.5 lengths at odds of 12/1 .... and yes there were some members of the 3Cs chess club who profited from it.

Pictured is the result card which also shows that Three Cs' jockey appropriately wore chequered colours ... the only one in the race to have done so.

Crosstables for each event  can be found here. http://www.stockportchessclub.org/doc/2020%20Stockport%20cross-tables.pdf

The Individual Rapidplay was held at the Guildhall Stockport on 26th January 2020 as part of the 34th Rapidplay organised by Stockport Chess Club.

There were 138 players which was comparable to the previous year, with an impressive turnout in the Minor and Intermediate Sections, along with some very highly rated players in the Open Section. Most pleasing was the large junior contingent (22 players under 18) with a junior player winning each of the lower three sections.

In the Open there were 15 players. First place was shared by Paul Macklin of Chorlton, and Joshua Pink of Stockport with 4.5 points.

The Major was won by Junior player Sam Davies of Tiger Chess with an impressive 5.5 points, in a field of 18 players. Dan Sheppard of Stockport finished 2nd with 4.5 points and took home the Stockport League Trophy.

A huge Intermediate Section contained 50 players and finishing in 1st place, dominating in this packed field was Junior player Sam Parry of Cheddleton & Leek who won out and finished on 6/6. Raven Morrello of Chorlton and Philip Cattermole of Macclesfield shared 2nd place on 5 points.

There were 55 players in the Minor Section, which saw Dawn Supatan of Ashton finish 1st with 5.5 points. Dawn won the U12 prize last year in the Minor and her brother Denzel was last year's winner!

Second place in the Minor was shared between Alannah Ashton (another talented junior) and Neil Jackson, both of 3C's, Talakalukoppa Amarnath of Chesterfield, and Dax Bale of Chester who all finished on 5/6.

Junior prizes in the Minor were won by Bradley Triffitt of York RI on 4.5 and the U-12 prize was won by U12  was won by Thisumi Jayawarna  of Heywood  4/6

The Organisers would like to thank those players who gave donations towards the costs of running the Congress, to everyone who participated for helping the day run smoothly, and to the Controllors: Rod Middleton in the Open, Fiona Green in the Major, John Wain in the Intermediate, and Gareth Griffiths in the Minor. Special thanks must be extended to Peter Taylor for another year ensuring the Congress can go ahead and overseeing all the details and preparation.

The next SRP is provisionally scheduled for Sunday 31st January 2021 at the Guildhall and we hope many of you will return.

Manchester Junior Chess

Junior 4 Nations Chess League

18/19th January 2020

South Normanton

Manchester entered two teams in the J4NCL, one each in the FIDE rated A Division and one in the ECF Rated B Division.

The A Team came third which was an outstanding result given that we were including two very new players to the FIDE rated tournament.

Sam Parry Leek & Cheddleton

Kyle Pelling Heywood

Edward Jackson Three C’s

Ethan Gardiner Three C’s

Darcy Casserly Worsley

Rowan Eccleston Bolton

Best result must go to Edward Jackson with 100% but good results from Rowan and Darcy who acquitted themselves well at the deep end!

The B Team came second and the most consistent players were Lewis Sheehy who got 100% in his matches and William Fairclough who got100% on Board one.

William Fairclough Bolton

Bryony Eccleston Bolton

Sam Hunt Bolton

Lewis Sheehy Bolton

Josh Seet London

Stephen Nagai Bolton

All results can be seen at http://www.4ncl.co.uk/j4ncl/jn_news.htm

Finally a word for the Three C’s Team in the FIDE rated A Division

A big ask for a young team but they stuck to their tasks and should be applauded for their efforts over the weekend. Best score Alannah Ashton.

Next Match 15/16th February, Daventry. Want to play? Grade over 60? Contact julian.clissold@outlook.com
