MCF Heaton Cup

MCF Heaton Cup

The MCF Heaton Cup is an online tournament developed by the MCF to support players wishing to play long games during the pandemic. The tournament also focuses on fun and learning with all the games annotated by the tournament team and shared with participants.

There have been two cycles of the Cup, both played on Lichess, consisting of 1 round per week for six weeks, with the time control of 60 minutes + 15 seconds increment.

The first cycle ran from 24th August 2020 to 3rd October 2020. The second from 19th April 2021 to 29th May. In both cases around 50 players took part and included participation from practically all MCF clubs. The first tournament was ECF unrated, but in the second the all games were ECF online rated games.

1st Heaton Cup – August to October 2020

• 1st place: Daniel Lee (Chorlton Chess Club)

• Joint 2nd place: Jamie Kumar (Worsley Chess Club) and Julio Calcina (Manchester Social Chess Club)

• Team prize (overall points): Eccles Chess Club

• Team prize (most points by top 3 players): Chorlton Chess Club

2nd Heaton Cup – April and May 2021

• 1st place: Carl Tillotson (Heywood Chess Club)

• Joint 2nd place: Daniel Lee (Chorlton Chess Club) and Andy Stoker (Stockport Chess Club)

• Team prize (overall points): Eccles Chess Club

• Team prize (most points by top 3 players): shared by Heywood Chess Club and Stockport Chess Club
