Directions: The club is about 300 yards north of the junction of Washway Road (A56) and Eastway/Woodhouse Lane. If travelling on the A56 from Manchester, it is on your left just after Homelands Road. If travelling towards Manchester, make sure you get in the right hand lane when crossing the Eastway junction as otherwise it can be awkward to turn right into the club. Look out for a large white sign at the car park entrance. By public transport, there are regular buses along the A56, and Brooklands Metro station is approximately three quarters of a mile away.

Bolton Chess Club

Venue:  YMCA, 125 Deansgate, Bolton

Directions: From the M60 take the M61 Preston then immediately take the A666 Bolton. Go down the A666 for about 3 miles and as you approach the first set of traffic lights on the A666 itself get into the inside lane marked M61 Preston and turn left. Stay in the inside lane and 400 yards later at the second set of lights take the second exit, signposted Wigan, into Marsden Road. At the next set of lights turn left into Deansgate. Go through the next set of lights when the YMCA is on the right and on the immediate left is a side street with a small car park (charge now £1.50). Park there if you can. Arrive early. Thursday is late night shopping and parking can be difficult.

Access: There is now a chair lift on the stairs at the entrance to the YMCA.

Chorlton Chess Club

Directions: St. John's is situated on the corner of Chequers Road and High Lane.

From the west (Stretford and M60 From Bolton), Come along Edge Lane (A5145) until the junction of Wilbraham Road and High Lane at traffic lights, and take right hand fork signposted Didsbury, Edge Lane become High Lane. The club is on the right on Chequers Road which is the 6th turn on the right from the lights.

From the north (Manchester) or east (Fallowfield), find the junction of Wilbraham Road and Barlow Moor Road (A6010 and B5217) at the centre of Chorlton-Cum-Hardy. Proceed along Barlow Moor Road towards Didsbury, until the next traffic lights; turn right towards Stretford onto High Lane.  
From the South (Princess Parkway A5103 and M60 from Stockport) Come up Barlow Moor Road (A5145) into Chorlton just after the bus terminus at the lights sign posted Stretford turn (Left) into High Lane. Chequers Road is the 3rd road on the left.

From METRO Station: Chorlton Metro stop: 5-10 minute walk to the club! Turn Right out of Chorlton metro Station, onto Wilbraham Road, head towards centre of Town. Cross Barlow Moor Road, at the traffic lights, towards Stretford; Turn first left into Brundretts Rd, in between Co-op and Bargain Shop. Follow Brundretts Rd, to the end, turn right at Edge Lane. Club is second on the left at Chequers Rd.

Directions: From Manchester and the South follow directions to Bolton via M60, M62 and M61. Take right hand lanes on M61, signposted A666 and follow for approximately 2.5-3 miles. Exit left at junction signposted ‘Bolton South and Bury’, but remain in outside lane to the traffic signals at top and ready to turn right on to the A579 Bradford Street (signposted Bury A58). Continue through another set of lights (approx. 200m) on to Castle Street (B6209). The Ukrainian Club is approx. 75m on the left. There is a car park and on-street parking is available.

Heywood Chess Club

Directions: The club is on the LEFT side of Manchester Rd., on your way into Heywood from J19 of the M62. Get to J19 of the M62. Take the A6046 into Heywood. After 100 yards go straight over first mini-roundabout.  At the second mini-roundabout, 100 yards later, turn left onto Coronation Avenue. 

After 100 yards come to traffic lights at T-junction. Turn right towards Heywood on Manchester Road (the A6045.) 

Follow the road for 300 yards where it will turn sharp left. 

IMMEDIATELY after this bend (so have your left indicator on as you round the bend, OR PREFERABLY HAZARD LIGHTS) the Hopwood Sports Club is on the left-hand side. Pull into the lane and immediately turn right into the car park. Enter the club via the double doors, which are 30 yards to the left of the car park. Take the right hand door which leads to the function room.

Stairs to the function room are just inside the front entrance.

Directions: -Entering Northenden from the north, crossing the river Mersey, the social club is on the right hand side of Palatine road approaching the end of the village after Tesco which iis also on the right. The entrance to the car park is just after the row of shops past Tesco. Sharp right at the phone box.

Entering Northenden from the other side, coming off the motorway or Princess Parkway or up Sale road, you go up Palatine road, past the Britannia Airport hotel on your left, the entrance to the club car park is just before the first row of shops on the left, past Moor end road, sharp left at the phone box.-

The club does not allow non-members to bring their own food and drink to consume within the club. Water is fine. There is a bar available.

Stockport Chess Club

Venue: The Ladybrook Hotel, Fir Road, Bramhall, Stockport

Directions: From Bramhall and the south travel along Bramhall Lane South. After the railway bridge Fir Road is the second turning on the right. The Ladybrook is at the far end of Fir Road on the left.

From Stockport and Manchester on the A6 take Bramhall Lane, which becomes Bramhall Lane South, as far as Bramhall Park roundabout. Go straight across this and Fir road is the first turning immediately after it on the left. The Ladybrook is 500yds on the right.

From Hazel Grove and Poynton turn off Macclesfield road into Dean Lane which becomes Jacksons Lane and then Bridge Lane at the end of which is Bramhall Park roundabout. Take the first exit left and then immediately turn into Fir Road as above.

There is a large carpark.

Bramhall Station is 20 minutes and Davenport Station 25 minutes away on foot

Three Cs Chess Club  

Venue:  St. Edwards RC Parish Hall. Corner Burton Street/Spring Lane, Lees, Oldham

Directions:

  1. From M60 (Stockport) or A62 (Manchester)

          Proceed to Hollinwood

          (Junction 22 - from M60 Stockport go right onto A62

  1. At Hollinwood from the motorway Junction 22 or Manchester follow theA62 towards Oldham for about 2 miles until a large roundabout with traffic lights and a bridge above it.
  2. Approaching the bridge, go in the extreme right-hand lane, which will go under the bridge and bend right as it does so.
  3. Immediately after bending right is another set of lights. Stay in the right-hand lane and go straight on to the by-pass (A62 Huddersfield/Saddleworth). (ie. Do NOT go back under the bridge to your right).
  4. Follow the by-pass to 2nd set of traffic lights (about ¾ mile) and turn right onto A669 (Lees/Saddleworth).
  5. Follow A669 for about 1.5 miles until you go down a long steep hill, at the bottom of which is Lees Brook Mill on your right.
  6. Just after the mill (and just as the road begins to rise again) take first right into Burton Street.
  7. Go up Burton Street and turn first left into Spring Lane and then immediately left through the gates of St Edwards Church Parish Hall car park.
  8. Drive behind the building for the car park and the entrance to the playing hall is through the double doors at the far end of the stone building opposite the church.

(NB:  So you can judge your travelling time;  From Hollinwood at the M60 junction, it should take about 15 minutes to reach the venue.)

B. From M62/A627(M) Junction 18

  1. Exit the M62 on to the A627(M) and head in direction of Oldham.
  2. Take the second exit (Elk Mill Shopping Centre  will be on the left at  the traffic lights).
  3. Take the 2nd exit on to Chadderton Way (dual Carriage Way). Travel along the dual carriageway to the large roundabout and then take the third exit on to Oldham By-Pass.
  4. Follow the by-pass to 2nd set of traffic lights (about ¾ mile) and turn right onto A669 (Lees/Saddleworth).
  5. Follow A669 for about 1.5 miles until you go down a long steep hill, at the bottom of which is Lees Brook Mill on your right.
  6. Just after the mill (and just as the road begins to rise again) take first right into Burton Street.
  7. Go up Burton Street and turn first left into Spring Lane and then immediately left through the gates of the St Edwards Church Parish Hall car park.

Directions: The club is on a mini-roundabout, and is located within two minutes walk from the Bird i'th Hand pub opposite Flixton High School for Girls.

No special disabled access; matches are normally on the first floor but if necessary could be played downstairs in the pool room

Adequate ladies’ toilet upstairs next to the gents

Venue is suitable for juniors and their parents

Refreshments are available at the bar

Please use the bar but no problem with bringing water.
